Purpose: The Maintenance Worker (Painting Emphasis) maintains school buildings and grounds in top condition to ensure full and productive use of district facilities, with primary responsibility for interior and exterior painting and surface preparation. To accomplish these tasks, the Maintenance Worker must work closely with the staff and administration of Seaman Schools. This is a 12 month position

Starting Hourly Rate: $18.50

 

Qualifications:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Experience in painting and general building maintenance preferred.
  3. Knowledge of painting techniques, surface preparation, and finishing methods.
  4. Knowledge of basic maintenance systems.
  5. Valid Kansas driver’s license.

Essential Functions:

 

 

    1. Maintain school buildings and grounds in top condition to ensure full and productive use of district facilities, with emphasis on painting and finishing work.
    2. Prepare surfaces for painting by scraping, sanding, washing, filling, caulking, masking, and priming.
    3. Apply paint, stain, varnish, enamel, and other finishes using brushes, rollers, and spray equipment.
    4. Mix and match paints and finishes to achieve desired colors and finishes.
    5. Remove and/or cover graffiti and vandalism in a timely manner.
    6. Inspect facilities to identify painting and general maintenance needs.
    7. Appropriately operate all equipment and machinery as necessary for painting and maintenance work, including sprayers, lifts, ladders, scaffolding, and power tools.
    8. Communicate effectively with all members of the school district.
    9. React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned.
    10. Comply with all district policies, rules and regulations.

 

  1. Requires prolonged sitting or standing.
  2. Requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials.
  3. Requires stooping, kneeling, crawling, bending, turning and reaching.
  4. Requires climbing and balancing, including use of ladders and scaffolding.
  5. Must be able to work indoors and outdoors year-round.
  6. Must be able to work in noisy and crowded environments.
  7. Must be able to work in and around dust, paint fumes, chemicals, and odors.
  8. Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
  9. Requires regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job.

General Responsibilities:

  1. Perform interior and exterior painting of district facilities.
  2. Maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency in all painting and maintenance projects.
  3. Assist in maintaining school buildings and grounds in top condition.
  4. Assist in promoting the safety, health, and comfort of students and employees in school buildings and grounds.
  5. Perform general maintenance, repair, and installation tasks as assigned.
  6. Move equipment and materials within and between school buildings.
  7. Assist in snow removal from school district building walkways, entrances, and parking areas as needed.
  8. Adhere to all district health and safety policies.
  9. Other duties as assigned by the maintenance supervisor, which are consistent with the general requirements and qualifications of the position.
